Global Perspectives on Strategies for Strengthening Education to Employment Pathways

In this FWE Webinar, Educate! connected with executives from the World Bank, KfW Development Bank YearUp, and Forum FYE. The panel discussed common challenges in preparing young people for the rapidly changing needs of employers, both locally and globally. Educate! shared our evidence-based approach to skills development and two ways we are scaling that impact: through education system integration and alternative pathways for youth, recognizing a great number of young people cannot access post-primary education. The panel also showcased a range of other strategies that have been successful in strengthening the education to employment pathways for youth and young adults, and ways to foster the continual learning and adaptation on the job that today’s employers demand.

Educate! Named as a Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Accelerator

Educate! has launched a new solution for out-of-school youth in Kenya, which has been recognized by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as an innovation accelerating progress towards #SDG8: Decent work and economic growth. This solution is comprised of evidence-based skills bootcamps that are designed to equip youth in Kenya with the skills to gain quality employment and improved livelihoods in key informal sector industries — where 83% of Kenyans work.

Community Service Learning (CSL) in Kenya

Educate! began working in partnership with the government of Kenya and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to transform secondary education to equip youth with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. The CSL subject aims to build socially responsible citizens who can create businesses, address climate change in their communities, and thrive in the labor market after school.

2019 National Student Business Club Competitions in Rwanda

In 2019, Educate! hosted a National Student Business Club Competition in Kigali, Rwanda. The competition marked the end of a year-long journey of learning and growth for students participating in the Educate! program. Clubs that had won regional competitions earned an invitation to compete at the national level and vie for the title of Rwanda’s top Student Business Club.

In the News: 2017 National Student Business Club Competitions in Uganda

Educate!'s annual Student Business Club Competition in Uganda was featured on the local news station NBS. The Competition brings together the top Educate! Student Business Club from each of Educate!’s community units. The top Clubs from across the country showcase their projects and compete against each other to win awards in various categories, including sustainability, bookkeeping, marketing, budgeting, and teamwork.
