Entrepreneur Magazine Names Educate! As One of the "100 Brilliant Companies" for 2009

Entrepreneur, a 30-year-old magazine that publishes news stories about entrepreneurialism, small business management, and business opportunities, has named Educate!, an organization that aims to empower the next generation of socially responsible leaders in Africa, one of the “100 Brilliant Companies” for 2009.

“Booze, Whoppers and lottery tickets are the only recession-proof commodities out there, but we’d add one more to the list: brilliant ideas,” states the June 2009 issue of Entrepreneur. “The 100 companies featured here are evidence that a little brainpower, determination—and good timing—can trump even the worst Pepto-Bismol market.”

Since Educate! began in 2002, the organization has provided 22 scholarships, mostly to students in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement of Uganda and launched the Educate! Experience, a program that is equipping 415 students across Uganda with the skills and confidence necessary to create social enterprises – innovative, sustainable, and effective solutions to the greatest challenges facing their communities.

“Receivng Entrepreneur magazine’s ‘100 Companies to Watch’ is a huge honor and accomplishment,” said Boris Bulayev, Educate! Co-founder. “It’s very exciting for us to see the organization grow from a small student-run non-profit to an established non-profit that has caught the attention of Entrepreneur.”
