Educate!'s Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action
We're proud to announce that Educate! has been recognized at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting.
In line with Educate!’s bold goal of scaling to reach one million youth annually by 2024, Educate! has committed at the 2016 CGI Annual Meeting this week to:
- Expand to 450 schools in 2017, impacting 16,000 youth intensively in Uganda while broadly reaching over 150,000 youth.
- Scale to 550 schools across Uganda in 2018, impacting 19,000 youth intensively and over 190,000 youth more broadly.
- Launch in a third African country by 2019.
Our 2016 Commitment comes at a pivotal moment, as recent data indicates that enrollment in secondary school in Africa will be doubling in the next 15 years, with 90% of youth working in the informal sector. By the end of the next century, 50% of the world’s children will be African, and 6 to 7 billion young people will go through African secondary schools. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that education systems fulfill their promise of providing opportunity and a path to a better life.
Educate! is working to transform education in Africa to make African schools incubators for future leaders and entrepreneurs, and we’re on the cusp of a massive expansion. This new Commitment aligns with our Vision for 2024 to impact one million youth annually across Sub-Saharan Africa, empowering them with the skills they need to solve poverty for themselves and their communities. Our ultimate goal is to replicate our experience-based education model across Africa, to create a grassroots movement of young people driving sustainable development. Our proven model has a direct impact on life outcomes: Educate! graduates earn DOUBLE the income of their peers. Educate! is the most effective and sustainable solution to youth unemployment and youth poverty, and that’s why we’re proud to use this Commitment to share our ambitious goals for scale.
Educate!’s 2016 commitment builds on our 2013 CGI Commitment to Action to scale our proven skills-based education model from 54 schools to 200 schools by 2015. We are proud to have surpassed the goals set out in the previous commitment-- from the start of Educate!’s 2013 Commitment until the end of our 2016 Commitment, Educate! will have increased the number of schools we are working in tenfold!
