Educate!'s Response to COVID-19

As we all navigate new challenges in our lives and communities, we’d like to update you on Educate!'s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Educate! is taking immediate action to ensure the safety of our staff, partners, and the communities we serve, while also looking at ways to adapt and innovate in response to this new reality.

Like you, we are closely monitoring global developments on COVID-19 and following recommendations from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As the situation evolves, our leadership team is holding daily briefings to swiftly determine the best course of action for our staff and programs.

Our response to this unprecedented global challenge is grounded in three core values:

Currently, schools in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda have been closed, and we have suspended all of Educate!'s in-school activities while we monitor the situation. Ensuring the health and safety of our staff, partners, and students is our top priority: our team has moved to fully remote work for the time being, and we have postponed all travel. Each of our offices is following the relevant government advice, and we are rapidly sharing new information with our staff and partners to keep everyone safe and informed.

Times of hardship are often fertile ground for creativity and innovation. With these values front of mind, we're doing our best to see what opportunities emerge to prepare even more youth with the skills to succeed in today's economy. All youth are now effectively out-of-school youth during this time, and we are committed to doing our best to serve them in a moment when they need it most.

Now more than ever, we are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that deeply cares about one another, and one which has always demonstrated resilience, grit, and creativity. Amid the uncertainty that this pandemic brings, we believe our community is our greatest strength, and we can work together to support one another during this challenging time.
